The regulations were introduced to help minimize risks to other aircraft, people, and property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recreational pilots may be relieved to find out they don&#8217;t need to get certified, but some training is required. The Recreational UAS Safety Test (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/uas\/recreational_fliers\/knowledge_test_updates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TRUST<\/a>) offers a free course to hobbyists flying drones under 55 lbs. and within the visual line of sight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other requirements for recreational drone pilots include they only fly as part of a hobby (no side jobs). They include:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"su-list grid-container\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Be at least 16 years of age<\/li><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Be able to read, write, speak, and understand English<\/li><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Be in a physical and mental condition to safely fly a drone<\/li><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Fly at or below 400 feet<\/li><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Use anti-collision lighting when flying during civil twilight or evening<\/li><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Fly at or under 100 mph<\/li><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Yield right of way to manned aircraft<\/li><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Avoid flying from a moving vehicle, unless in a sparsely populated area<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Exceptions may be issued by submitting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dronepilotgroundschool.com\/fly-a-drone-at-night-faa-rules\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Part 107 waiver<\/a> from the FAA or through approval for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dronepilotgroundschool.com\/faa-airspace-authorization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">special airspace authorization<\/a> from the FAA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Additional_Requirements_for_Commercial_Drone_Pilots\"><\/span>Additional Requirements for Commercial Drone Pilots<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once applicants receive their remote pilot certificate, they must abide by the following requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"su-list grid-container\" style=\"margin-left:0px\">\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Maintain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dronepilotgroundschool.com\/faa-drone-registration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drone registration<\/a> every 36 months and keep your remote pilot certificate available whenever you fly.<\/li><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Keep your license up to date by sitting for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dronepilotgroundschool.com\/recurrent-knowledge-test-part-107\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recurrent aeronautical knowledge test<\/a> every 24 months.<\/li><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Keep your small UAS available to the FAA for inspection or testing, and maintain all required documents.<\/li><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Report any accidents, injuries, or property damage of over $500 to the FAA within ten days of the event<\/li><li><i class=\"sui sui-check\" style=\"color:#5CC9FE\"><\/i> Conduct all necessary preflight inspection procedures to ensure the small UAS is safe for operation.
